Be the One Service Projects
See Semester Events Calendar for dates
Be the One makes a statement that we care about our future. As citizens
in a community, we must care for one another, indeed love one another. It is in
caring for each other that we are made more fully human and more fully alive.
Be the One is a call for MU students, faculty, and staff to come forward
and change the world through the example of their lives. It is this example
that commits our gifts and talents for the purpose of building a culture of
love in all of our varied communities.
Be the One helps us to be more aware of the many needy sisters and
brothers in our midst, and that we must do all we can to alleviate their
struggles. What a reward it is to know that we can make a difference in the
lives of others!
Be the One challenges us to look into our own hearts, to look into our
own communities, to find someone who is in need, someone who is wanting, or
someone who is looking up to us. Each one of us will be granted the opportunity
to lift up others and attempt to put them on the road to a fuller life.
How Does It Work?
Participants in Be the One will be able to participate one Saturday a month at
a community service work site. The type and kind of work sites will vary from
month to month. You may wish to help at one or all of the offered volunteer
opportunities.
Be the One service projects do not require skilled or
semi-skilled volunteers. A desire to be of service to others is the only
requirement. Most projects will include the following: cleaning, raking,
painting, serving meals, or light carpentry.
All volunteers are encouraged to sign up for each service project prior to the
day of the event. Transportation and any necessary tools will be provided for
all participants.
On the scheduled Saturday, you are invited to gather at the Newman House, which
is located at
Clothing should be appropriate for either indoor or outdoor work. A light lunch
will normally be provided to all the Be the One volunteers.
If you are interested in registering or would like more information, please
call Fr. Tcheou at 872-3350.
